When a teacher wants to try a new tool, the first question from the school is usually about student data. What's collected? Where is it stored? Who can see it?
We wanted the answer to be simple, so we built Zeyoa so there's almost nothing to protect.
Students never sign up
Students don't create accounts, and they don't give us an email address. To join a game they go to zeyoa.com, type the code from the board and a first name. That's it.
There's no app to install and nothing that needs a parent's permission to download.
Game data is erased when the game closes
While a game is running, we hold what's needed to play it, the names students typed and their moves and scores, in server memory only. It's never written to our database. It's erased when the teacher closes the game, or automatically within 3 hours of the game going idle. We don't keep past class results, and we don't build profiles of students.
We do suggest students use a first name or a nickname, not their full name.
If a student's tab closes mid-game, they can rejoin on the same device and browser and pick up where they left off. That works because their own browser remembers the name they typed and a random player ID. No account needed.
Only the teacher has an account
The teacher's account holds their name, email, school (optional) and a password stored only as a one-way hash, plus their plan. We also record which games a teacher hosted and how many students joined, with no student names. Card details are entered on Stripe's pages, so we never see or store them.
Keeping it classroom-friendly
Anything students type goes through a classroom filter before anyone else sees it: names, guesses, answers, captions. Students who try something get a friendly "let's keep it classroom-friendly" message and have to change it.
In the writing games, answers show up blurred on the teacher's screen first, so you can check them before revealing. The Players button in every game lets you remove a student, and removed students can't rejoin that game.
No filter is perfect, so a quick look before revealing answers is still a good habit.
